Everyday someone is looking to get involved in the stock market, but they forget to really learn about the markets by taking a stock market course. There’s a lot more to the stock market than just buying and selling stocks. In an earlier post titled stock market 101, I spoke about just a few basic things you’ll need to know to understand how to look at the stock market. In this post I’ll just talk about general issues you’ll need to know as well.
A key issue that many new investors forget to do is to do proper research on each of the stocks you’ll want to invest in. Take into consideration that just because you want to invest in a particular stock doesn’t mean that you should. I’ve heard in the past to invest in a company that you’re familiar with or they make the products that you purchase. The problem with that is that if the company is having a rough time making sales or has poor leaders in executive positions, the stock price will suffer. You need to do research into the company first before you invest any of your hard-earn money into it.
You’ll need to learn how to read financial reports, balance sheets as well as the company’s quarterly earnings reports. Looking to see if the company’s fundamentals are on solid ground. Besides the fundamentals, you’ll need to learn how to look at the stocks technical analysis. Each stock moves in a trend and once you’ve learn how to read the signs, you’ll be able to make great gains for you portfolio. Of course learning the technical data is a little hard than looking at the company’s reports, but it’s not impossible.
As with everything in life, it takes time to be able to do it. Be patient and you will see that you can take control of your financial future without having to pay a broker to do it for you.
